Chris's mom got Charlie this Cow outfit and I finally tried it on him. Good thing too! because I think it won't fit in it for long!

Sawyer and Penny
Our first born children are our dogs Sawyer and Penelope.
We weren't sure how they were going to react to having a baby at home. Penny, the Sheltie, really acts like she doesn't even care about the baby as long as someone still plays ball with her every once in awhile. Sawyer, on the other hand did not sleep for 2 days when we brought Charlie home because he had to check him out whenever he made the slightest squeak.
Saywer likes to help give Charlie baths. When he's not getting a real bath Sawyer gives him wet willies and licks the spit up off his cheeks.
I'm careful not to leave Charlie anywhere alone where Sawyer can get to him.
The other day I was sitting at the kitchen table with Charlie on my lap on the boppy pillow. Sawyer was lying on the kitchen floor. It was very quiet in the house when Charlie made some loud pooping noises which scared the dog and Saywer jumped up to come check things out.
Sawyer has calmed down a bit since Charlie first came home. Although he has to sniff him everytime we come home. I think Sawyer was depressed when Charlie had to go back in the hospital and we came home without him.
Often I find Charlie's blankets, pacifiers, and clothes strewn around the house. But thankfully, Sawyer never chews anything up he just likes to drag them around and hide them.

St. Patty's Day
Chris's Spring Break fell on the week of St Patrick's Day. It was also mid 70's today so we decided to go to the Zoo. Charlie Slept in the BabyHawk carrier for the first part. We stopped for some overpriced lunch - I got nachos, yum! I fed Charlie in the shade and then he was awake in the stroller for a little while and then fell asleep.

Charlie - 1 month
Today Chris didn't have kids at school and got to leave work early. Charlie and I took him lunch and then we met him at Portrait Innovations for his 1 month pictures. This place was highly recommended by multiple people. We really don't like the look of studio pictures and the photographer we had was the most pleasant to work with. We did get a few good pictures before things turned sour and Charlie got really fussy.

2 week check up
Today Charlie had his 2 week check up.
His weight is up to 8lbs. 10oz and he is 21 1/4in long.
I hadn't bought very many newborn clothes but the ones we do have he fits in pretty well although he is getting too long for the 1 piece outfits. He is also wearing newborn diapers.

Tuesday when Charlie was admitted to the hospital they didn't let him eat. They took 4 tries to get an IV in him his sodium level was high so they gave him a bolus and started him on maintenance IV fluids. They rechecked his bili level at 2000 and it was down to 20 from 22.1. He couldn't eat and parents aren't allowed to sleep in the NICU and since he was under the Bili lights we couldn't even hold him. He was sleeping well and wasn't fussy at all. So, even though it was the hardest thing to do and I felt really guilty about it, Chris and I went home for a few hours to try and sleep.
I called the nurse the next morning around 5 and they had rechecked his bili level and it was down to 15. The NICU also makes parents leave between 7 and 8 am and 7 and 8 pm for nurse report. We came back in the morning around 8am and around 9 the doctors let him have 1 oz of breastmilk by bottle and he gulped it down. After that they let me breastfeed him for 20 minutes and then offer a bottle afterwards every 3 hours. He was eating well and at 1600 they rechecked his bili level and it was down to 12.8. Chris went home in the late afternoon to try and sleep and he came back around 11pm. I stayed until after the midnight feeding and then left to try and sleep and came back for the 6am feeding. Now his bili was down to 11.3. They did another hearing screen that was normal.
The discharge planner at the hospital had originally told me they would make us stay the night thursday night in the parent care unit to make sure Charlie continued to eat well. But the doctors came by around 11:30 and told me he could go home with the biliblanket light after Apria came to bring it to us and show us how it worked. Chris had gone home to sleep so I called him to tell him the good news that he could come pick us up. We were finally discharged around 2:30pm.
