Happy Halloween 2009

Chris's mom made Charlie a turtle costume this year for Halloween. She lives 3 and a half hours away so we did a couple emails back and forth asking for measurements.

From 2009_10_31

Then Chris's mom and dad came up to visit on Halloween and stayed one night. My parents also came over to see Charlie in his costume.

If it wouldn't have been so close to bedtime, I think we would have gotten more smiles out of him.

From 2009_10_31

We didn't take him trick-or-treating but he enjoyed standing at the door while all the trick-or-treaters came to our house.

Wash Routine

photo 6

When my diaper pail gets close to full or I notice I'm running out of diapers, I pull out the diaper pail liner and carry it downstairs to the washer.

1

I wash them on the large load setting with cold water, no detergent and an extra rinse. Sometimes i add a squirt of dawn to the cold wash.
Next I do another large load setting with hot water and a cold rinse with about 2 tablespoons of Rockin'Green detergent. I've tried other detergents (charlie's soap, allen's naturally, tide orginal powder,) but nothing has gotten the diapers so stain free and I've had no stink/ammonia issues with Rockin' Green.

After the second wash I throw them in the dryer on low for one cycle.
photo 2

Whatever is not dry or has stains (usually just the microfiber inserts) goes out on the clothesline if it is not raining. If it is raining I leave the inserts in and dry them one more time in the dryer.

I am also very impressed with the stain removing the sun provides. After a few hours, or whenever I get around to it, I bring the diapers in and put the inserts in. I also put a flushable liner into each diaper.

I did buy a diaper sprayer but none of the three toilets in this house currently have a flexible toilet hose so I have to put one on or get my dad to cut the metal hose to fit the sprayer on. Until then, I have been using the liners. (I usually just throw away the flushable liners if they have poop on them, if there is no poop they go right in the pail and washed and reused.)

Charlie is always a big help!

Daddy Daycare

This is how Chris has the living room set up for when he takes care of Charlie while I'm sleeping for work or at work.We refer to them as "stations." We also have an exersaucer in the basement family room that acts as another station and a bouncy chair too.

5 Months old

I have some catching up to do with blog posts...
Charlie turned 5 months old on July 13th. He rolls more from his back to his tummy now then he does the the other way. He is grabbing at everything and trying to sit up.
He has the best personality and I can tell he recognizes me and his dad and also his name. Here's the classic 5 month airplane picture:
He really likes water and if he gets fussy I know I can stick him in the tub and he'll be happy for hours.

starting solids

I debated when to start solids and was hoping to wait until 6 months. However, my pediatrician suggested starting at around 4 months. I started with cereal and have also done green beans and carrots.
We don't do solids everyday. Maybe 4-5 days a week in the evenings before bathtime. I still breastfeed him normally and don't wait for him to be "hungry" to feed him solids.

Happy 4th of July

For 4th of July we went to Pomme De Terre Lake and spent a whole week camping (in my parents RV.) We didn't go out on the lake every day and when we were out on the lake we stayed in the shade as much as possible. But Charlie really loved the water. Although he didn't much care for his lifejacket!
I was really anxious to find out how he reacted to the fireworks. He took a nap before it was time to watch them. Then we went down to the boat that was on the shore and watched the fireworks from there. He just stared at them and seemed to really enjoy it. He didn't jump with the load noises or anything.

rolling over

On Wednesday June 3rd Charlie rolled over from his tummy to his back for the first time. The first time he did it he did it so fast that I almost missed it. Then I put him back on his tummy to see if he would do it again and he got his upper body rolled over but took about 5 minutes before he rolled the rest of the way. I did get video f it that time, but I haven't uploaded it off the camera yet.

This past weekend I had to work. I work 12 hour night shifts at a pediatric hospital. Chris is a teacher so he is off for the summer and takes care of Charlie at night on the nights I work and during the day when I need t sleep/nap.

Sunday night Chris called me at work and told me that Charlie had woken up and was crying. While Chris was warming up a bottle Charlie started crying louder. When Chris went back to check on Charlie he had rolled over onto his tummy and was not happy about it. Later that morning around the 4 o'clock hour Chris told me that Charlie kept waking himself up and getting mad because he kept rolling from his back to his tummy.

All week I was hoping to see him rollover but he didn't do it for me until last night.

Charlie did really well the whole weekend. He fell asleep right before the ceremony started but then started to fuss a couple minutes into it so I ended up taking him to the "Cry Room" at the back of the church and watched the ceremony from there.
