penny watching tv

tonight we watch the movie 8 Below. I was prepared for how sad the movie would be from my sister's account of it. I think it's funny though how my dog penny will watch the TV whenever there is dogs on it.

NT test, firs Ultrasound

Today we had the first trimester screening done. I think it's a pretty new test. It is and ultrasound and blood test that looks for your chance of the baby having down syndrome, trisomy 13, or trisomy 18. We won't find out the results for 7-10 days but we did come home we the first pictures of our baby.
It was a big relief to see that there is actually a baby in there with a beating heart. It was neat to see him or her moving around.

Rockford, Illinios

The past weekend we went to Rockford, Illinois to visit Chris's grandparents. I had never been to their house before so it was interesting and a little nerve wracking. It took about 9 hours to drive there. I'm almost 11 weeks pregnant and the nausea is pretty constant these days. I didn't realize how tired I have been lately until we were there because I haven't been doing anything but sleeping and going to work. But I was exhausted and went to bed at 6:30pm most nights we were there. I felt really bad about it but I was just so tired. I also made it the almost the whole trip without actually throwing up until the on the way home. I get the most nausea after I haven't eaten for awhile and right when we pulled into a taco bell parking lot I puked all over the parking lot and my shoes. That was lovely.

While we were in Rockford we watched home videos of chris growing up. We went to a Japanese water garden
We drove by a garage sale on the way to the Japanese garden and Chris's grandma started shouting "HOT DAMN" apparently it was supposed to be one of the best garage sales in Rockford. We went to it on the way home, but i wasn't all that impressed.

The next day we went to Chris's Grandpa's Barber shop that he has for sale. Chris went to play golf for the first time later that day. I should have taken a nap while he was gone but I didn't and then I was too tired to go to the concert in the park that his grandparents had planned for the evening. Apparently it started raining so they left after about 15 minutes, so I didn't miss much.

This visit I learned how Chris's grandma likes to give all her family lots of stuff when they come visit. They are getting rid of their 30 year old RV so we got to go through it and take anything we wanted. This is what are car looked like the day we left.

iphone car wreck

Today I got off work in the morning and met chris at the AT&T store by our house. We got in line for IPhone but we were probably the 60-70th people in line and they told us it was unlikely we would get an I phone that day so we decided to leave and come back later to order one. I went to bed when I got home and around 4 pm Chris was supposed to meet someone at Bass Pro Shop to sell one of our bearded dragons. But I got a phone call saying he was in a car accident, less then a mile from our house. I went to meet him and we had the tow truck driver - against his recommendations - tow the car back to our house. The other guy in the accident was at fault so his insurer totaled the car and we got a rental car for a week.

Chris and the other guy were going in opposite directions on a two lane road. The other guy had a mower on the back of a flat bed truck that wasn't properly attached and it fell off and hit chris's car knocking him off the road , causing two flat tires and the side airbags deployed.

the mower:

chris's car:
so now we are currently looking for a new car, we are looking at ford fusions.

the secret

Well, no one can keep secrets, including us. I think our parents and sisters have pretty well spread the word about the pregnancy. I had wanted to wait but I guess you either have to tell everyone or no one.

One of the things I'm really excited about is buying baby products. I can't see the sense in buying anything this early, so I've been researching products, reading books (I have a stack from the library,) and cleaning and organizing the house.

I bought bibs for our parents and sisters that say "i love my grandpa/grandma/aunt" but I have already sent everyone but my parent's to them. And the one other baby thing I did let myself buy were these cute shoes, although I realize baby shoes are pointless.

Here's a picture of the baby's room. It may surprise you but this is actually much cleaner - though stuff is spread out more - then when I started cleaning it.
And new shelves in the basement to help keep it less cluttered down there.

1st OB appt

Chris and I went to our baby's first Ob appointment today. We haven't told anyone we are pregnant yet. Since my mom works in the medical records department of my OB's office I was afraid she was going to find out before I told her. However, she left work early on friday and had today off since she and my dad went to the lake.

At the appt they did an exam and went over some information/gave me a packet, took my blood pressure, weight, and drew labs and took urine. I felt a little rushed and they didn't even mention what my due date is, but i'm suspecting it is feb 18th. I was also a little disappointed that they didn't do an ultrasound and my doctor mentioned they will probably only do one around 20 weeks.

I'm very excited to be pregnant because I was really worried about infertility and am still worried about genetic abnormalities and other things that can go wrong. I also don't really "feel" pregnant yet so it's hard to believe that I really am.

When we got home Chris couldn't wait to tell his parents so he called and told them and his sister too. They all seemed very excited.

Since he told his family I felt that I needed to tell mine. I have to work tonight so I went ahead and called my parents, who are still at the lake, to tell them.
